Key takeaways

  • Pick one discovery platform, one evaluation platform, and a follow-up path.
  • Test one audience problem for 30 days before adding another channel.
  • Use operator review queues when official publishing access is unavailable.
  • Measure qualified conversations and buyer intent, not follower count alone.

China distribution works best when founders choose two or three platforms around the product’s buying journey, content format, and trust requirements. Start with one platform for discovery, one for deeper evaluation, and WeChat for ongoing contact when the audience already uses it.

Chen, an invented composite founder, was sitting in a Shenzhen café at 9:40 p.m., refreshing seven newly created brand accounts while his unfinished product demo waited in another tab. His voice AI tool had a Chinese website, translated launch posts, and profiles on every major platform. By Friday, he needed enough qualified conversations to justify continuing the launch; instead, he had scattered drafts, inconsistent replies, and no clear signal from potential buyers.

The bad ending was close: another month spent feeding channels without learning which audience cared.

With three days left, Chen stopped publishing everywhere. He chose Zhihu for detailed answers to technical questions, Bilibili for product demonstrations, and WeChat for follow-up. The narrower plan produced something the seven-account calendar had not: a testable path from discovery to evaluation to conversation.

Choose platforms by the job they perform

WeChat Official Accounts suit ongoing communication with people who already know the brand. Use them for product updates, educational articles, event follow-up, customer stories, and material shared through existing relationships. WeChat Channels adds short video and live content inside the same broad ecosystem, making it useful when demonstrations or founder-led explanations can lead viewers into continued contact.

Douyin rewards strong short-form video concepts. It fits products with an immediate visual payoff, especially shopping, consumer applications, demonstrations, and transformations that make sense within seconds. A complex B2B product can participate, but only when its value can be shown quickly. A generic talking-head summary of technical features gives viewers little reason to stop.

Xiaohongshu is useful when discovery depends on taste, personal experience, comparison, or purchase research. Shopping, lifestyle, design-led software, creator products, and practical guides fit naturally. Posts need a clear human situation: what someone tried, compared, changed, or learned.

Bilibili gives technical explanations and longer demonstrations room to breathe. It suits developer tools, education products, voice AI demos, tutorials, and products that benefit from screen recordings or careful walkthroughs. The audience can inspect how something works instead of accepting a polished claim.

Zhihu fits expertise-led discovery. Founders can answer narrow questions, explain tradeoffs, compare approaches, and establish a reasoned point of view. It is a strong candidate for B2B technology, education, and categories where buyers research before acting.

Baidu matters when people actively search for an answer, provider, or product category. A crawlable Chinese-language site, useful landing pages, and topic-focused articles support this behavior. Toutiao can distribute timely, broadly accessible articles to readers whose interests align with the subject, particularly when the company can maintain a steady editorial rhythm.

Match the product to a small platform set

A B2B technology company should usually test Zhihu plus Bilibili, then use WeChat for continued contact. Zhihu captures specific questions. Bilibili shows the product working. WeChat keeps the relationship alive after the first useful interaction.

A shopping brand can test Xiaohongshu plus Douyin. The first supports comparison, use cases, and saved recommendations; the second tests visual hooks and immediate product appeal. WeChat may become valuable for retention once a customer relationship exists.

An education product can pair Bilibili with Zhihu. One teaches through video; the other answers the questions learners ask before committing. Add WeChat when lessons, updates, or community communication require a persistent channel.

A voice AI product can begin with Bilibili demonstrations and Zhihu explanations. Show latency, workflow, configuration, and realistic use cases using approved product recordings. If a short before-and-after demonstration makes sense without exaggeration, test Douyin as the discovery layer.

This selection reflects a longer historical pattern. Chinese digital distribution developed around large platforms with their own content formats, identity systems, recommendation mechanics, and commercial behavior. A standalone website still matters for search, credibility, documentation, and conversion. Alone, it waits for traffic that may never arrive. The practical task is to connect platform discovery with an owned destination and a clear next step.

Run three 30-day experiments

During days 1 through 30, publish around one audience problem on two platforms. A B2B founder might answer five closely related Zhihu questions and produce two Bilibili demonstrations based on the same product capability. Track qualified comments, profile visits, saves, direct conversations, and visits to the relevant page. Follower count alone cannot tell you whether buyers understood the product.

During days 31 through 60, keep the stronger platform and change one variable on the weaker one. Test a different opening, narrower topic, clearer demonstration, or more specific audience. Reuse the underlying research, while adapting the presentation to each platform. This is the same discipline behind learning from zero-click search content: match the material to the question people already have.

During days 61 through 90, build a repeatable route. For example: Zhihu answer, Bilibili demonstration, website documentation, then WeChat follow-up for people who request continued updates. Chen ended his first 90 days with three maintained destinations, one weekly review block, and evidence about which questions led to serious conversations.

Keep humans at fragile publishing boundaries

Official publishing access varies by provider, account type, permission, and platform policy. When an official API is unavailable, browser automation can fail after a layout change, verification prompt, or login challenge. It may also create account and compliance risk.

Use an operator review queue instead. Prepare the platform-specific draft, media, hashtags, destination, and scheduled time. Let a human confirm the final post inside the platform. Approval queues preserve context and accountability while keeping credentials and unpredictable interface steps under operator control.

Marketing Agent can define product strategy, generate localized content and videos, maintain calendars, and publish to connected destinations where provider access permits. For unsupported destinations, the safer operating model is prepared content plus human review, with approval boundaries recorded per product.

Do not launch every brand on every Chinese platform. Pick the smallest set that can prove a path from attention to trust to action. On Monday morning, Chen opened three useful queues instead of seven empty dashboards. He knew what each post was testing.
